5/7 Body: International Poetry Night @ Meta House

BODY: INTERNATIONAL POETRY NIGHT & OPEN MIC AT META HOUSE
7th Saturday, May 2011 @7PM

Dust off your old journals and join us for a night of poetry, including an hour of open-mic, where writers and various artists will read their work or offer other artistic variations. The first of a hopefully continuing tradition, the BODY series this month features Phnom Penh-based poets Christopher Crawford (UK) and Philip Heijmans (USA) and short-story writer Kate Liana (USA) offering a multitude in the stylistics of prose, poetry and spoken word. Christopher Crawford's poems, fiction, translations and essays have been published in numerous literary journals ("Rattle", "Crazyhorse"). Philip Heijmans is an associate editor at The Cambodia Daily. Performance artist and poet, Anida Yoeu Ali is a first generation Muslim Khmer woman born in Cambodia and raised in Chicago. Utilizing video, installation, sound, and performance, her works investigate the artistic, spiritual and political collisions of a hybrid transnational identity.
Anida is living in Phnom Penh as a 2011 U.S. Fulbright Fellow to Cambodia whose research is focused on creation mythologies.
