UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 27th October 2010
The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage is an event organized by the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center with the support of UNESCO.
In the Framework of 2010 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center, in partnership with UNESCO will offer discussion about the way individuals (both collectors and amateurs) can participate in the conservation of their country's Heritage.
Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center will welcome screenings, conference and two living arts from 2:30pm to 8pm!
After 6:30 pm, a shadow puppets show will be performed by Sovanna Phum. It will be followed by a special concert of traditional music from the Tampuen community organized by the Cambodian Living Arts for the launching of Yeak Loam Arts Group's CD.
Since 2007, the date of the first celebration of the World Day, the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center has offered each year, in collaboration with UNESCO, a day of meetings and reflection around issues related to audiovisual archives in Cambodia.
A special moment to follow the Center's work and to exchange ideas with specialists, the 2010 day will be devoted to Cambodia's heritage saved by individuals.
October 27 echoes the "Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images" adopted by UNESCO in 1980. The effort aimed to sensitize worldwide nations to the importance of safeguarding national audiovisual heritage, which in our societies today plays a part that is as important as written archives. As an organization whose missions is to collect, safeguard, and promote audiovisual documents about Cambodia, Bophana Resource Center, in cooperation with UNESCO, has celebrated World Day for Audiovisual Heritage every year since 2007 in order to raise awareness of endangered audiovisual documents in Cambodian.
The theme proposed by UNESCO for the 2010 day is "Save and Savor your Audiovisual Collection – Now!" This theme addresses how one can participate in the conservation of the country's heritage. The goal of the project is for highlight the role that individuals, both amateurs and collectors, can play in preserving this heritage.
This year, Bophana Audiovisual Center hopes to display several individual collections on different topics, including cinema, painting, music, and photography. . It will be a special occasion for discovering unpublished images, as the majority has never been publicly revealed and for highlighting the historical, artistic and ethnological value of these documents. Oftentimes, these materials are the only existing testimony of a single phenomenon.
Bophana has released a call for proposals for collectors and individuals who would like to share their own
