US filmmaker Steven Okazaki has been nominated for four Academy Awards. His film "The Conscience of Nhem En" (2008, 26mins), which was nominated for an Oscar in 2009, focuses on Toul Sleng prison photographer Nhem En and the few survivors.
Barbet Schroeder's stunning documentary TERROR'S ADVOCATE (2007, 135mins) is a history of world terrorist movement as told through the story of the enigmatic lawyer Jacques Vergés, who is defending Khieu Samphan at the ongoing Khmer Rouge trial in Phnom Penh. The famous French director takes us down history's darkest paths in his attempt to illuminate the mystery behind Vergés.
