Defending the defenders of human rights in Cambodia
Prof. Surya Subedi, OBE
(Campus venue to be confirmed)
Professor of International Law at Leeds University, and a Barrister of Middle Temple, Prof. Subedi currently serves as the UN Special Rapporteur for human rights in Cambodia. The Special Rapporteur is an independent expert appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council to follow and report on the human rights situation in Cambodia. His most recent visit to the country has been to examine key state institutions, to conduct an analysis of how these institutions work and the extent to which they provide citizens recourse and remedy for breaches of their rights. In particular, he is addressing the issue of judicial independence, and this seminar will be the first public talk on this recent work.
