Stanley Harper (who will be present at the screening) chronicles parallel lives of a Khmer family – half of whom went to one of the refugee camps in Thailand, while the other half stayed in
Cambodia. This story is enriched by grandmother Yan Chheing who has an extraordinary grasp of the complex issues involved. 20 years in the making, this sentimental look at Yan's struggles in the Thai refugee camp and her daughter's hard life in a village in Battambang before the two were reconciled, was a triumph for Harper's dogged determination to tell their story.
Cambodian Dreams (2007, 85mins) will be screened for the first time with French subtitles.
