Abstract: The author wishes to present the deeply rural and profound cultural richness which characterizes rice in Cambodia: the thinking and the ritual practices associated with it. It also appears that we face a very fragile intangible heritage.
The talk comprises two parts. The first deals with various rituals related to different steps of the rice cultivation cycle. The second part concerns rice in its very close connection to humans: we could almost see it as a related being to us, once we consider the rites of passage marking the different steps of an individual life. On a symbolic level one could even consider humans and rice as two facets of one single being.
Prof. Ang Choulean: Advisor to the Director General of the APSARA Authority, he has been teaching historical anthropology for many years, and now he is focusing on Old Khmer Epigraphy at the Faculty of Archaeology at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. A Research Associate of the EFEO, he is co-editor of Udaya, a journal of Khmer studies, and of KhmeRenaissance, a cultural website which contains around 250 articles on various topics.

ចំពោះប្រធានបទខាងលើនេះ អ្នកនិពន្ធមានបំណងបង្ហាញព្រមគ្នាយ៉ាងស៊ីជម្រៅ និងដ៏ខ្ពង់ខ្ពស់នូវសម្បូណ៌ភាពវប្បធម៌នៅតាមជនបទ ដែលកំណត់ចរិតលក្ខណៈដំណាំស្រូវនៅប្រទេសកម្ពុជា តាមរយៈការគិត និងការប្រតិបត្តិពិធីសែនព្រេនទាក់ទងនឹងដំណាំនេះ។ ដូចគ្នានេះដែរ វាបង្ហាញថា យើងកំពុងបែរមុខមើលបេតិកភ័ណ្ឌអរូបិយដ៏ងាយបាត់បង់មួយ។
ការសម្តែងនេះរួមមានពីរចំណែក។ ទីមួយ នឹងបង្ហាញជូនពិធីសែនព្រេនផ្សេងៗពីគ្នាតាមដំណាក់កាលខុសៗគ្នានៃវដ្តដំណាំស្រូវ។ ផ្នែកទីពីរ គឺទាក់ទងនឹងដំណាំស្រូវក្នុងតំណភ្ជាប់យ៉ាងស្អិតរមួតជាមួយមនុស្ស ដោយយើងស្ទើរតែអាចមើលឃើញវា តែងនៅជាប់ជាមួយយើង នៅពេលណាយើងពិចារណាអំពីពិធីសែនឆ្លងវ័យ ដែលធ្វើឡើងនៅដំណាក់កាលខុសៗគ្នានៃជីវិតបុគ្គលម្នាក់ៗ។ នៅក្នុងកម្រិតនិមិត្តរូបមួយ វាត្រូវពិចារណាឃើញទាំងមនុស្ស និងទាំងស្រូវ ដូចជាជីវរូបតែមួយដែលមានមុខពីរ។
